What is Sudoku?
Taken from "Sudoku to Go!"
"You would imagine that with such a name this puzzle originated in Japan, but it has been around for many years in the UK. However, the Japanese found an example under the title 'Number Place' in an American magazine and translated it as something quite different: su meaning number; doku which translates as single or bachelor. It immediately caught on in Japan, where number puzzles are much more prevalent than word puzzles. Crosswords don't work well in the Japanese Language."
"Sudoku is not a mathematical or arithmetical puzzle. It works just as well if the numbers are substituted with letters or some other symbols, but numbers work best."
Blah blah blah... anyway, you can often find a sudoku in the local newspaper. Just look for a 9x9 grid that has a few numbers 'randomly' placed in it. If your newspaper doesn't have a puzzle for you to try out, head to wal-mart and look through their book section. That's where I got my sudoku book.
I just had to share. I think I finished my first sudoku puzzle either very late November or early this December.
Ever wanted something to keep you occupied while waiting for that airship?
Sudoku.
Waiting for that annoying red-haired mithra to reset her connection again?
Sudoku!
Waiting for a raise after a pt wipe in dunes?
Sudoku!
Waiting for the guild to open so you can buy crafting supplies?
Sudoku!
It takes me about 10 minutes to finish an easy sudoku puzzle if I work on it from start to finish. However, the beauty of these puzzles is that you can start one, leave it for days, come back to it, and start right where you left off without trouble.
edit: spelling errors fixed.
